I love George Shaw

I really do - like 'proper' love him. For the uninitiated - he's the Turner Prize nominated painter who creates almost photographic images of the grim streets and estates he grew up in, painted with Humbrol and Airfix paints in staggering detail but with a cold, dark melancholy. My friend Jane gave me a copy of his book today - it's great..... anything with a chapter 'Morrissey v Francis Bacon' is obviously a genius.

Hi there. I couldn't agree more, that is a great chapter title. I think I love his work because he doesn't try to hide 'England' behind depictions of valleys and trees and hills (much as I like Paul and John Nash etc). He is leaving an authentic record behind of the 'real' England. Thanks for reminding me about him!

You made me look! And you weren't joking about the staggering detail.
Blimey.
Is he related to Heston Blumenthal?

Schnee!!! shame on you!!!!

Cheers GL - I have a post on here somewhere about the house I grew up in exactly the same as the system built Coventry boxes... but oddly enough it really appealed to me in it's 'squareness' and compact dullness... dunno what that says about me.
