Saturday

Raining, a lot - has been raining most of the night and it's still dark and gloomy at 8am. Supposed to become sunny and bright this afternoon - will have to wait and see.

Going to clean the house first thing this morning, and then get on with a few things - there is a flea market in the Old Town at 11am, but it's quite posh and probably over priced. I'm also planning on a trip to The Jerwood to see the Gillian Ayres - as I'm a member, I can just swan in for free.

Spent the evening eating nice food and watching you tube films, I remember what Youtube was like when it started - grainy, pixelated transfer that shuddered and lurched through about 2 mins of rubbish - now it's full length, high quality movies for free - there are vast resources of forgotten classics that never get put out onto DVD or shown on TV, really enjoying discovering a lot of 30's and 40's masterpieces.

Listening to the early morning news - frankly - I'm bewildered by the Jimmy Saville debacle - through my childhood I viewed him with great discomfort - he was the creepiest looking bloke in the world - a cross between Doris Speed, a freakish clown, and a very sinister pastiche of Grayson Perry. There were ALWAYS rumours of his sexually predatory nature - even in my corner of North Wales, and I viewed anyone who wore a tracksuit as sexually predatory ( see also P.E. teachers and the blokes that worked at the public baths in my town who sat around all day in the changing rooms reading pornography ). I'm going to a lot of trouble to avoid the whole thing - I don't want it in my head.

I spent some time online last night looking at books - I'm a 'real' shopper rather than an online shopper - and like to actually have something in my hand before I buy it - that includes books, despite the reductions, I'm far more likely to buy in a shop rather than over the internet - at least I would if I could, the local Waterstone's has done away with their ( rubbish ) design section - if I actually want to buy decent new books I have to travel an our into Brighton or two hours to London to find ashop that sells them, all that's on offer here are the last dregs of misery memoires, 50 shades of shite and celebrity autobiographies.

It's stopped raining. After this coffee and a dog walk I'm going to decide how ( and where ) to spend my day.
