The wind is blowing, it's bloody cold, and I'm hiding at the back of the house with the lights off in case any kids come calling. I noticed earlier that there were a sinister number of teenagers lurking about - looking for trouble/excitement/sex etc.
I could be out tonight - but have decided against it, again - really can't be bothered.
Cleared almost the whole loft - someone is coming tomorrow to take away a crate of scrap copper and I dropped off all the roofing lead I didn't need earlier today - at the house of someone who does need it.
Started watching a documentary about European Horror Films - but as I cannot stand mark Gattiss - it was a waste of time. Everyone assumes that I will like him "oh, he's so you, he likes all the same things, he's so witty, and so gay' - actually - I think he's an annoying twat - he's not an expert - just a fan - there was nothing very engaging, new or entertaining that couldn't be plucked off google in 5 mins.
Watching the Hammer version of Day Of The Triffids - I picked up ( another ) Penguin copy last week with a very good cover - and I'm going to start reading it again later.
There was an article in the papers at the weekend about re-selling CD's and DVD's. They are, essentially - worthless. Digital has killed all of that - best advice is to store them away, selling on is a wate of time - unless you decide to give them to charity - many people have digitised their collections ( sounds sensible enough ) and no longer need a hard copy - I think I'll give the whole lot the once over and then just pack them away. Of course - by 'digitsing - you are just transferring from one format to another - which will also become redundant in tie.... I think I'm glad I kept all my books, I may even have a go at Vinyl again.
'Mr Sloane last night was great - although the heating was on full and I could hardly stay awake. The local independent is in an old house on the high street - must have been the drawing room or something - quite nice detailing. They have loads of old cinema seats, mine was knackered and sunk on one side, very uncomfortable. A couple of people looked like they were expecting a different Beryl Reid film, judging from their attire. It was part of the St Leonards International Film Festival season - we sat through some shorts and experimental stuff first - the usherette was a girl I vaguely know socially called Penny, one of this years films is about her and how she actually used to be a boy. I like Penny - she's very smart and idiosyncratic - but I have difficulty reconciling the sweet girl I know with her day job ( she's an engineer - works for the MOD, designs trigger mechanisms for machine guns ).

I couldn't agree more about Gatiss. He spreads his very average talents far too thinly and it's hard to avoid him. Basically, he's just a Who fan who wants to be the next Doctor. He's managed to get his foot in the door by writing some of the worst episodes in the series, but his thwarted plan to play the role has become sublimated in a series of Holmes/Who patsiches - Professor Nebulous, The Vesuvius Club etc.
Thank you S. - I'm so glad it's not just me.... he's terrible, I expect the bbc are grooming him for the day Stephen Fry croaks. That episode of DR Who with the Spitfires and 'super' Daleks was excruciating.
