Thursday

Finished work at 1pm and went into town - had a meeting of the Cultural reference group and needed to do a few things, scorching hot again - lots of inopropriate flesh on show and some staggeringly bad tattoos - including a couple of women who must have come from the circus.

I had a cup of coffee in Bullet - a fey and attractive middle class girl was in front of me - she asked about everything on the menu - how much fat there was in it, and how big it was - and eventually asked 'how big is the actual rice' - in the end she just had water, the girl serving looked very angry.

All the shops have wedding tat - much of it quite dreadful. I went into Waterstones but they seem to have reduced their range down considerably - hardly anything worth buying.

I picked up a load of reduced bound notebooks in Smiths, they were a lovely shade of Oxblood and just like Moleskin ones - very pleased. I bought some slippers and a new rear tyre for the bike.

The sea looked lovely - everyone was happy and I had a very nice afyernoon - even the meeting was good.

I love seaside towns - Brighton used to be like this before it went all 'continental' and 'London' - Hastings is brilliant, just the right mix of tat and trash. Saw quite a few people I knew and came home happy to cheap pasta and a Speckled Hen.

I just laughed very loudly indeed to the 'how big is the actual rice' story. Just priceless.

I swear that it's verbatim - she ummed and ahhed at everything and the girl behind the till had to show with finger gestures how small the meatballs in the bolognese were..
