I worked on the door at the 'Carnival d'Annimaux' at the masonic last night - it was an RSPCA fancy dress fund raiser. I walked over there at about 6pm, it was a lovely evening after a very hot and relaxed day ( well, I spent it in the garden - that was relaxing for me). I passed several very pissed chavs who had been watching the Grand National somewhere - one was hysterically screaming that he had won "£194 for a 50 accumalator" - and had even "lent my cunt brother a fiver" - I also saw several people weaving along the seafront, quite pissed - as the British and the sun at the seaside is a rather potent mix.
The ball was a bit of a laugh - some of the costumes were a bit... weird, although I thought Esther did a brilliant job of turning a black umbrella into bat wings ( plus spokes! ) and there were a number of people who came as unidentified furry things that were a little too fetishistic for my tastes. Quite a few people came a zebras ( I think it's something to do with a particular Primark pyjama style ) and lots of people were just 'odd'. The winning costume was a slug... although I though she wanted to be Lady GaGa. One utter cock came as 'Great White Hunter' with a real - although antique' leopard skin... with the head and everything... missing the point that it was an RSPCA fundraiser. A good time was had by all - far fewer coats than last time - due in part to the good weather - and the fact that most people had to be driven to the door, thanks to their.... appearance - which would have been alarming, even for St Leonards standards. I got home at about 2.30, town was still pretty full - as it was the first 'proper' spring weekend and people were splashing the cash.
Another beautiful day - cleared up the kitchen patio - got rid of some dead stuff and re-potted a few things. Cleared and turned the raised bed and planted runner beans. The small cherry tree and the pear tree look grim, every bud died during the last cold snap - but they have both begun to sprout a few inches from the ground - which is a bit useless - and as they are both hybrids I suspect something else has now taken hold. The big cherry tree is just coming into flower now. The rosemary are flowering and most things are really kicking off.
Going to catch up on work and get my head straight today, difficult week coming up and I'm not looking forward to it. I'm going to listen to 'Englishman Abroad' on catch up later and try not to get too stressed.
