I might put in a few windows.

There is a house up the road where an old woman used to live - typical late Victorian family home - it's next door to a very well know chiropracter and osteopath surgery. The old woman died last year - she was lovely but kept getting stuck at the bottom of the hill and never had the strength to get back up - so we would all end up helping her and carrying her shopping - quite often she would flag down a car for the last 20 yards. Her front garden was about 15 foot deep and full of shrubs and trees - loads of birds etc, very 'old style'. When she died her house suddenly passed to a couple in their 30's who stripped out the whole thing and modernised it - taking out anything original and making the whole thing 'new' - putting in a loft room - ripping out all the sash windows etc. I don't think it was ever on the market and it seems to have been done with indecent haste.

The worst thing they did was rip out the garden and block pave it as hard standing - with an incline to the road so all the greenery was gone and the rainwater just goes into the drains - reducing the water table and causing more drain grief at the top of a very steep hill. The also removed the garden wall on their side - and as the garden of the clinic next door was about  3 foot higher - left the earth exposed and all the trees started to lean towards them - it was left like that for a few months. This weekend the Clinic gave up and cut down all their trees - leveled the front garden to the same height and look like they too are going for hard standing. Both houses now look bland, boring and sterile. No trees, no birds. Cunts.
