Saturday

Really cold, very windy - wooly hat weather on the dog walk.

Cleared most of the loft yesterday. There is a section over my bedroom that I don't use - the beams are not strong - the previous owners appeared to have spread polystyrene chips over it and an old carpet as a form of insulation. I have the mistake of clearing it with the intention of putting down the right type of loft insulation.

It was a mistake - under the carpet I found a selection of old woollen blankets, curtains and fabric - all a host to millions of alive and dead moths - thousands of moth corpses and rotten fabric left behind, horrible experience. Cleaned most of it up and it's all going to the tip this morning. I'll get one of those smoke bomb moth kilers later.

Busy day - and there is a zombie walk in town later - apparently 300 people have signed up ( although I think it might be a bit too cold for even the undead )

Had an email yesterday. I had a student who had joined the course after a career in arts administration and had a small family, she's already completed a degree when she was young in Art History - and as a consequence, found my course difficult in practical and financial terms. It was also quite hard to adjust back to being a student after being 'the boss'. She worked hard and persevered. Eventually she was offered a place at LCC ( University of London ) to complete her 3rd year, but as she already had a degree, was re-interviewed and offered a place on the Masters program. Yesterday she was awarded the Rectors Prize and bursary - the only one this year - really pleased for her. She has an interest in publishing and book design - really proud of her.
