I had a text message early this morning, a friend had gone out for a walk and discovered a broken bottle of Vodka and a case of beer abandoned in a country lane. After clearing up the glass, she did the decent thing and carefully hid the beer in a box hedge outside my house for me to find - her being a remarkably kind woman and suspecting I'd appreciate the gesture.
I also acquired enough insulation for the loft by swopping it for a ticket to see Billy Childish later in November- carbon neutral stuff. I spent the afternoon doing half the loft - most of my skin is now peeling off, have spent an hour in the bath sloughing glass fibers out of my skin. Went to a boot sale with the friend who salvaged the beer - picked up a Joe Orton novel and a couple of decent John Wyndham Penguins - but generally it was quite rough - the ASDA car park in Silverhill has little promise, most of the customers are troglodytes. I also went over to see a small holding, the owner is a former builder who is coming to see my house on Tuesday with a view to scaffolding and doing some repairs to the render and chimney stacks. It's a beautiful spot - I can actually see it from North's Seat when I dog walk. I was introduced to a large number of chickens and a couple of Cockerels - including some special asian bantams - really beautiful birds, the colours were amazing, like birds of paradise. I stopped eating chicken recently - this just confirmed my resolve.
Very heavy rainfall due here tomorrow - we have had flood warnings, not quite as bad as New York... obviously - but not welcome.
