Up at 4am, probably because I was ready for bed at 7pm ast night. I finished at the studio at 4.30, did a few jobs at home, had my dinner and realised it was dark, cold and I had nothing to do - so I had a bath and went to bed. It's cold and raining very hard outside, the shipping forecast is on the radio and giving very scant comfort. According to the BBC - it's going to rain all day - glad I have plenty of work to do.
Scant comfort in the papers. An elderly woman who took down a campaign poster in Connecticut featuring Obama with a Hitler moustache - has been arrested and charged with theft. She has cheerfully admitted the 'crime' - and explained that having lived through the war, she was offended. Can expect up to 3 months in jail. Over here - that twat Nick Griffin has posted the name and address of the gay couple who won a discrimination case against a B&B owner, and suggested that people demonstrate outside their house. I'm sure he has the kind of followers who would love the opportunity to comunicate their own ideal of 'British' - the police have been notified.
The judge did refer to the religious convictions of the couple - which they are perfectly at liberty to waste their lives on, but it's a business - you can't stick a sign in the window saying 'No Blacks, dogs or Irish' - nor can you say 'No Gays' - it's pretty cut and dried. If a woman ran a nail-bar in a property she lives above ( "but it's their home", I hear Griffin bleat) she wouldn't be allowed to get away with saying 'no black or Asian nails, no gays, no unmarried women'. It's not political correctness gone mad, it modern society.
Amused that the value of Google shares dropped sharply after a poor profit last quater - as if it was something you could walk away from. If Google vanished overnight - western civilisation would probably collapse by the end of the week.
I dd some housekeeping on this computer yesterday - cleared off about 6 gigs of stuff, loads of archiving and ran a full diagnostic. Despite being a modest little macbook that I bought 10 months ago, it's never crashed or stalled, works much faster than my old tower and is a sleek little silver machine. I'm thinking of buying it a bag of it's own as a reward.
After a check I found only one infected file - and it was a PC Windows file that was attached to an archived email. I need to upgrade for the studio and I'm pretty set on a new release Mac Mini due later this month, ideal for me because they are still portable and can be locked away when not in use. My next big job is archiving everything and looking at potentially off site archiving.
A couple of nice projects today, I could do them from home if I wanted to - depending on the rain, which is VERY heavy.

Hi Richard
Your last paragraph reminds me of when I had my office in London. We lived in Richmond and the office was in Chiswick in the end I started inventing more & more reasons why it would make sense to work from home today, especially in the winter months.
Keep warm & dry Phil B xx
