Sunday

Overslept today - and I fell asleep yesterday afternoon, must have really needed it. Achieved little yesterday, went down to town to look at a few things and bought nothing - saw a couple of people I know and chatted to them. Then went to the cinema - over 11 quid to watch a film....

There were only about 8 other people in the cinema with me - it was the 12 noon showing and I expected it to be quiet. The rest of the audience were all single men in their 30's who probably worked in computers and appeared to be slightly autistic. So I was in good company. Of course, in an empty cinema - someone sits directly in front of me and someone behind me. I'm not a fan of 3D movies and found the glasses distracting and uncomfortable.

Prometheus was a bit of an oddity. It's very long but fails to develop many of the peripheral characters at all - the effects are wonderful - I liked the use of landscape best - both here and in space - and the leads were very good, but I got lost quite a few times ( I had to look up loads of references on the IMDB message boards last night to get things straight! )

If you are going to see the film - I'm not giving any spoilers away, but two things might help you - the opening scene is set on earth - not the planet, and is millions of years ago, before man ( that's not clear - a bit like 2001 A Space Odyssey ) and the crashed space ship at the end is NOT the one in Alien - it's a different ship and a different planet - that might make it clearer. Also, I thought the final scene - you'll have to wait for that one, was a bit too.... Resident Evil.

I'll probably enjoy it much more on the big screen at home when the DVD comes out.

I saw a small boy with his parents yesterday, he was about 10. He was wearing a T shirt with the legend "Let the pork see the chop' on it. I was shocked.

The mad woman who used to work in the Oxfam book shop who was moved sideways to the clothes shop was in trouble again - she seems to have accused someone of shoplifting - they were veery angry, and quite happy to strip off to prove they had nothing hidden about them.

They have a posh woman on the radio reviewing the papers, she's a Baroness or something - she has no idea what she's talking about and is rambling aimlessly.

My neighbours are putting up flags, mostly rather weedy specimens from the pound shop - the poor weather isn't doing them any favours.

I am hoping the rain stays off for a while - I want to so a bit of gardening before I start working.
