Sunday

Very quiet day at home yesterday - felt better for it, someone came round to borrow a book at 7pm and I was in my pyjamas. I watched Contact ( Jodie Foster ) - and paid more attention to the end part - which was very clever and well written - and much more ambiguous than I remembered - still has the cleverest opening sequence of any film of the last 50 years. I then watched Conspiracy again - which was much more frightening and disturbing than I remembered - it helps that I can't stand Branagh - he plays the most repulsive character. Afterward, I finally got round to The Baader Meinhoff Complex - which was FUCKING BRILLIANT! I have quite a thing for modern German cinema - and this really was superb - up there with Downfall and Lives of Others. I remember reading all about the BM when I was a kid in my mum's Daily Telegraph, along with reports on the Yorkshire Ripper and the Birmingham Pub Bombings - my memories of childhood are all in black and white - I have read somewhere that this is a fairly common syndrome.

Sunday papers quite dull, absurd story in the Mail on Sunday about a couple who have been told they need to knock down their house to get rid of an infestation of Japanese Knotweed. It includes images of Knotweed growing through the floors and window frames. There are several references in the article to pesticides - I think they would have more luck with herbicides - and one of the comments pointed out that as they are unmarried - they deserved all they got, and should have kept their 'lustful' eyes on the garden and not each other.

One of the things I did yesterday was go though 20 years of archived work and pack it all away, I intended to get rid of anything I wasn't happy with - but I quite liked it all.

Yes, the Baader Meinhoff Complex was brilliant.
