Went to B&Q - my first trip out of doors in a couple of day - came out in a cold sweat and felt very light headed - partly due to the tail end of the flu - partly due to finding myself in the Xmas grotto by accident. had to leave sharpish. The garden center reinforces it's reputation for being a place where mediocre plants go to die. many were rolling around on the floor - out of their pots, a sad ball of earth clinging to a root ball. Overheard a very strange woman talking monotone to an equally odd man -
"I've had them, sometimes they grow, sometimes they don't, sometimes they grow, sometimes they don't"
Very strange. In the COOP a heavily pregnant girl repeatedly sneezed all over the loose fruit and vegetables - it would have been 'wrong' to punch her - so I left.
I always wondered what my neigbour kept in his detached lock-up garage. Rolls Royce Silver Shadow. Lovely.
After having watched The Baader Meinhoff Complex last night - I'm struggling to have an opinion about the St Paul's Peace camp. Frankly - what they are doing is far superior to bombing and shooting... but looking at the pictures - I do see rather a lot of expensive outerwear and imported hand knitted 'ironic' Nepalese bobble hats, possibly from nice shops on Marylebone High Street. Lets see what effect a decent cold snap and some proper rain makes.
Tey are talking about Greek austerity measures on the radio. I've had a policy of austerity for 20 fucking years - and now everyone else has to suffer like me they are all bleating poverty. My neighbours have just had a baby - I don't think he works - they celebrated with two giant ( and I mean giant ) flat screen wall mounted TV sets - one for the front room, one for the bedroom - you can probably see them from the moon - they actually light up the street. One of the blokes who works in the COOP has 2 kids and drives a people carrier - it makes no rational sense to me. I told my students last week that every time they take a day off from college - they are pissng away £70 in fees - which they will carry around as debt for at least a decade, blank faces all round.
I was stunned at how expensive fresh fruit and vegetables were in the COOP today. I'm going to get a small freezer and become friends with Iceland.
