I have to finish a piece of work by 5pm today - hence taking a break and tapping away here at 6am. In addition, I need to resolve the situation created by a client sending a rough draft to print instead of artwork.
I'm just drinking coffee - keeping calm and getting ready to bang out page after page of artwork.
They are talking about some of the sentencing for rioters on the radio - 18 months for having a stolen telly in your car seems fair enough to me - you must have known it was there and it must have come from somewhere, you can hardly say "riot... what riot.... it must have been the pixies wot put it there" - but 4 years for a stupid post on facebook... that nobody paid any attention to - apparently... not even the person who posted it.... now, I despise the chav-scum stupid white underbelly of society as much as anyone... but you can't really send people to prison for something that probably isn't illegal and didn't actually .. matter.
I'm sure the liberal legal community will be all over that one at appeal - but seriously, cost of 4 years in prison to the tax payer - £164,000.00... each. After which they will be criminalised, angry, resentful ( going to prison for, erm... nothing.. ) and unemployable - hence a lifelong burden to the state. The judge in the case said that the nation was gripped with insanity - he isn't kidding... Lengthy community based work would have been fine - along with the national humiliation for being a twat of the first order - this just makes the judiciary look absurd - and takes us a tiny step closer to states like China and Korea ( I can never remember if the North or South is the dodgy one ).
I slept quite badly, probably due to something I ate. In an attempt to use up some cougettes I decided to make something approaching a ratatoullie - but half way through prep I realised I couldn't remember how... I managed to make a selection of fresh, healthy ingredients into something quite disgusting. Several quite frightening nightmares later - the details of which I have thankfully forgotten - I wake up tired and tetchy....

As a magistrate, I agree about having more community sentences - they're not the soft option that some people think they are and seasoned criminals often prefer a few weeks in the slammer.
Perhaps we should rename these community penalties as 'Hard Labour' to keep the Daily Mail readers happy.
Maybe invite the locals to jeer and chant as they sweep the roads and paint freshly painted government buildings. Especially locals who have been on the sick for 10 years with 'a bad back' who are annoyed about foreigners taking all the jobs, give them a reason to get out of bed.
HaHaHa!!!
( I can't do 'Lol' - I'm too old... )
