Very good day yesterday - got loads done, took all the prints down to Butlers - have already sold a few and more reserved. Saw some friends and bought a fantastic 1960's car coat from Dunn & Co for 20 quid! Makes me look very spiv and natty.
It was staggeringly hot yesterday - town was packed with about 15,000 pirates - which seems normal for Hastings. It was very different to last year - I have a feeling that we didn't bother with the count for the world record and nobody went for the count on the beach - it's already become such a part of Hastings life that the town just turned over to Pirates... and that was that. I was peculiar for NOT looking like a pirate. Saw loads of people I knew, including someone I worked with 20 years ago, had a couple of drinks with friends in The Dragon and then came home before it all got too messy. Watched a few films - pissed about on the internet and went to bed.
The papers are full of financial doom and gloom - and the sad but troubling case of the boy killed by a polar bear .
I have no desire to actually see a polar bear - I've seen them on the telly and the computer and in books - I don't belong in their realm, and they don't belong in mine - I don't even approve of Zoo's - and don't get me started on circus animals... It does not help that the boy was called Horatio - was an Eton student and the holiday cost £4000 - it's sad and horrible - but that's what happens, he should not have been there. I was more than incensed by the headline in the Daily Mirror 'Hero guide kills beast'.... no heroes here today....
Old Town Carnival today - I shall be watching from the balcony of one of the regency houses on the High Street this year - weather looks good, so I'll take a camera. Better than the year when the carnival queen was revealed to have done some rather seedy porn... it also rained on her parade.
This winter - I shall be rocking the natty car coat look, fits lovely!
