Carnival hangover
First floor drawing room of Catherine's lovely house.
I went to see the Hendy history house yesterday - ancient medieval house in Old saints Street that has been renovated and is lived in, as if it were 1600 - it's only open one day a year - amazing, full to the brim with American tourists and a health and safety nightmare - winding staircases and low beams - but a really lovely experience. After that - carnival, which I didn't really think much of this year - rather tatty looking, some of the floats were very naff and a bit thrown together. I still don't understand why every single village between here and Dover needs a carnival queen on the back of a flat- bed - over tanned girls looking very bored - people throwing coins at them etc. The cannon and fireworks made one of JC's cats freak and hide under the wardrobe - and then got stuck - eventually ripping SDL's hands to pieces when he rescued her.
Spent the evening in one of the most beautiful houses in the Old Town - lovely big Georgian place with great views up and down All Saints and over to the other side of town.
I was in town yesterday and saw about 15 people I knew, there was a greek musician in the middle of the square outside the cafe Nero - as soon as he started playing - a middle aged woman who looked otherwise normal was transported back to what must have been a happier time and began dancing uncontrollable - carried on for about 20 mins in a world of her own as the shoppers stared - she must have had a Shirley valentine experience and never moved on.
Busy today - but going to take it fairly easy.
