Saturday

The media is, of course - dominated by events in Norway - which are so awful that I won't comment. The papers are in turns crass and unremittingly awful - some almost gleeful. On the BBC last night there was a staggeringly bad interview with an obviously shocked but very professional police inspector in Oslo who was constantly pushed to make sensationalist claims by the interviewer, but managed to retain his self control and dignity - and  later a telephone call to a young girl on the Island where the 2nd atrocity took place which went along the lines of

"so, you saw your sister shot"
-"yes.. she has been shot"
"er, well - is she OK now"

I have to be honest, I've always been a big fan of BBC news - but recently I've noticed becoming as tabloid and gruesome as Sky - or perhaps it's because I don't watch TV anymore and just listen to the radio, you pick up more nuances. When the news was only available a couple of times a day - it was more considered, informed and rehearsed, nor it just seems thrown together and anything is used to fill dead space.

In other news - The Daily Mail had outdone itself again, with a photograph of an overweight Emily Lloyd ( yes, you remember - superstar actress of the 1980's ) - who now lives quietly in Hackney on benefits, after decades of mental health problems. It's full of obviously made up quotes by 'friends' who 'fear for her'. The thing that really annoys me is less the shabby, invasive and bullying tone - more the fact that this is an exact copy of an article thy wrote about her a year ago - except she has put on a little more weight. She has a slight brown stain on her jeans - which looks like she may have spilled a drop of coffee on them - and they are described as 'shabby and mud splattered'... and they go to great lengths to criticise her hair - which looks fine to me - and I doubt that she was expecting to be photographed - last year the shot her taking the bins out ( well, don't we all do that once a week ) and it went on to describe her life as a drudge of menial tasks... You can tell by the angle that this was shot from a car with a very good quality camera - so someone is obviously going to great trouble to put this crap together... why don't the fuckers just tap her phone and be done with it.
