Saturday

I'm delighted that the Brassey Institue is to be retained as a public library in Hastings, after a multi million pound re-fit. It was mooted to close and build new, but I think this beautiful gothic revival building has more to offer. I popped into the new eat@ cafe on the Stade last night - it's opening in a couple of weeks - I went over to advise the designer working on the signage on materials - it's the new build on the Stade facing the lifeboat station - really lovely building with fantastic detailing - all done to a very high quality. Can't wait for the Jerwood to open - it's looking really good too. We went over to the angling club extension and had a look at the lovely lettering in incised concrete along the sides. Then - as is only right, had a pint in the Stag.

News wise - I don't give a toss about McCartney, and can't understand why it's plastered allover the news - I was never a golf fan... in fact I can't understand how anyone can see it as a career for a grown man, and I'm barely motivated to pick over the bones of the local elections and referendum. I think it's interesting that the Greens are now the biggest party in Brighton - a good thing.. and I think Nick Clegg really needs to 'grow a pair and man-up' if he doesn't want the shiny faced tory posh boy to keep pushing him around.

On the way home a I salvaged a 5' wooden crucifix from a skip - looks like the sort of thing that would have come from a church or gets carried around during Easter ceremonies - it's been on there for a few days, nobody seems to want to touch it - I'm going to use it as a garden ornament - although I do remember  that the week I moved into this house - someone out a burning cross in the garden of one of the houses on Old London Road... I won't be doing that.

Outside my house last night - a young couple were having a 'heated debate'

"look, you've moved on - I've moved on,  we've both found other people"

"yeah - but that doesn't mean we can't sleep with each other "
