Friday

I love Friday's - I get left alone, mostly.

Day started badly, Alfie Greyhound managed to get a thorn in his pad on the dog walk and refused to let me remove it - had to let him limp home and see if he can extract it himself this morning before I risk my fingers again.

No surprises in the elections, the bloke on the Today program just used the phrase -"dying years of the coalition". Interestingly - as I still follow Liverpool local politics, the Greens are doing well in my old ward and have held on to their seats. The AV vote is announced this evening and I'm expecting a hefty NO.

Overnight - the revenue adjusted my tax bill down from £7500 to £3000 - but are still billing me £2000 for 08/09 I don't owe and have not subtracted any of the £2000 I've paid since 09. Another day of fun admin ahead.

I've stopped watering everything in the garden, in fact - I'm exercising my right to euthanise things I no longer like the look of - quite a few things are starting to look a big tatty after this extended dry spell and I'm falling out of love with them - I suppose it saves on water.

I have one thing that specifically needs to go to print today, they are calling me later with amends - and a lot of other stuff on the back burner that needs to be done this weekend. I wrote all the summer projects for my first years yesterday and I need to sort out a tutorial program for them today. It's a week of half term in 3 weeks - that's when I get everything ready for the exam board to present to the University ( mostly done already ) - and then it's just getting the degree show ready - and the end of another year.

Can't come quick enough for me.

HMRC is in a total mess. Try heading every letter and envelope with FORMAL COMPLAINT in 20pt bold. You may even be invited to a tribunal - but you'll never win. Their staff must be trained by professional bullyboys GE Capital Finance of storecards fame.
