I interviewed a student yesterday - perfectly nice girl but wrong for the degree she was interested in, fortunately the head of that department came in later that day and I was able to pass them on. There was only one piece of work I found in her folio that I liked - it was clever and witty. Earlier today I found it online as part of a showcase of American Designers work.... that sort of thing really stresses me out. It's not unusual for students to appropriate work from their tutors, and then swear on a stack of bibles that 'they' thought of it. I often go through portfolios stripping stuff out. I have interviewed designers with my work in their books - and on 2 occasions been told by a prospective client that they objected to my inclusion of a piece of work that they swore beolnged to another designer they have already seen.

It amazes me how readily students will absorb work from other sources - mostly Google Images - and honestly believe that 'they' did it'.  I omit anything from my book that the client has had any influence on because it's 'no longer mine' - this includes the smallest change or even a different colour choice than my own. I don't think originality or honesty has much currency anymore.
