I smell a rat. I still have no real TV reception and it's University Challenge tonight...
This exact time last year all my neighbours had Sky fitted - I refuse to take the Murdock shilling so I'm still on FreeView.... but I wouldn't put it past the bastard to scramble my signal or send a lacky to my roof to pull the aeriel down..... I will not be beaten.

That's a bizarre coincidence. We're on a psychic wavelength again. The background... I'm reluctant to give Mudoch my money too but I want reliable TV reception so some time ago I investigated the costs involved in taking on Sky (there's a communal dish). There were catches left, right and centre so I told them to eff orf yet regularly get calls from their local representatives with special offers. Today, I chose not to answer a number I didn't recognise on my mobile - turned out to be them. Ditto this evening but on the landline. It was them again. TV reception is the crappest ever. Even on BBC which is normally OK. There I was sitting here contemplating a conspiracy when I read your blog.
There's more. I also investigated FreeSat the other day but had to check the Sky dish on our building was outside its warranty. Called the company referred to above (Sky's contractors) and they blatantly lied to me. Bare-facedly told me that my dish wouldn't be suitable. I asked why. The answer - "don't know, they're just different." Got an independent company round they told me everything would be fine for FreeSat and they're installing it in the New Year. All the channels, prefect reception, no monthly bills and a reasonable up-front payment for labour, materials and the box.
I've just come in from re-threading a new cable from the aeriel and there is some improvement - it involved a step ladder outside in the sleet and moving a cupboard that fell on top of me - and really hurt my shins. I've taken out the junction that serves the front room and I now have TV reception only in my office - but not a full compliment of channels.
I'm quite sure that Sky are 'weeding us out'....
Oh yes - Freesat..... I thought about that - for after my overpayment period on my mortgage ends - about Easter I think....
