Saturday

I was too tired to get up this morning - and too tired to dog walk - that's never happened before. I ended up bribing them with a tin of tuna and sent them back to bed - I'll take them out at lunchtime.

Very long and difficult week - work was pretty hard going - I'm essentially broke again already and really need a break. I've been asked a number of astonishingly stupid questions this week that make me think that possibly - society is doomed.

The hardest thing I've done in years is sit up half the night and artwork a repeat pattern made from lines of text, at a 40 degree angle - that wraps around a gift bag seamlessly with no join around the edges - and has several words picked out in a darker colour - that has to appear on the front and back in exactly the same position.... sounds easy... took me until after midnight - and I wasn't that happy with the join.

Astonishingly - my 'designing with computers' evening classes are going really well - despite clashing with The Apprentice they are still full every week and everyone seems happy - we did desktop publishing and Adobe Indesign in 2 hours this week and everyone kept up. Only 4 more weeks ( Adobe Dreamweaver... shudder! ) and that's it - I'm never teaching evening classes again ( unless I'm paid properly ).

I'm staggeringly tired - as much as I enjoy the teaching it's really draining and I'm already behind on the paperwork - I could do with a half term again. Some students are frustrated because they are struggling to keep up - some are frustrated because they want to move faster.

During the first presentation of the publishing brief one of the students admitted he had never read a book before. I was pretty pissed off about this. I taught on a Journalism and Marketing degree course at Epsom once and ran publishing workshops for quite bright media degree students who were applying for jobs in fashion magazines, we did an audit and none of them read a newspaper, listened to the news or bought any magazines except TV guides and gossip mags.

By the way - the college library has every copy of Vogue since 1950, fantastic stuff.

I couldn't find anything in the papers worth reading - I'll have another look later, but it all looked like shite. I have to get ready for the Vintage Sale tomorrow - I need to arrange transport - a large cab will be OK ( hope I have enough cash!) - I'm probably going to have another look about in the loft later and bag some more stuff up - having a clearout is addictive.

In other news I've been chatted up twice this week and invited out for drinks twice - but I have neither the time, energy or money to persue any of them. I feel like I should plug myself into the mains for a couple of days to re-charge.

The loose tooth at the back of my mouth that I grind when I'm asleep is really catching and I can't help 'worrying' it constantly - I really want it puled but there is a waiting list at the dentist and I can't spare the time or money to go to my dentist in Brighton - I'm tempted to get the pliers out myself.
