Burn, baby Burn.

One of my favourite sights in Hastings

I went down to the bonfire procession and took photographs - I quite enjoyed it but I hate fireworks and there are usually too many pissed people about on bonfire night for my tastes. Crowds, alcohol and shouty girls are the stuff of nightmares for me - so rather than get too caught up or going for a drink with anyone I always come home. I didn't like it as much this year - it was a bit flatter than usual - although perhaps I wasn't in the mood - someone has really managed to piss me off through work and I'm still seething.

I'm at home now - obviously... I just put the telly on and I think Louis Walsh has been replaced by someone only vaguely similar.

I popped into the CO-OP for some milk and they were being 'steamed' by shoplifters - the emergency distress call from the till over the tanoy is 'code 4'

Overheard in Hastings tonight

"first Jamie Oliver - then the resurfacing, sometimes I feel it's just not worth getting up in the morning"

"all it takes is one spark in the eye to blind you for life, and it's all over - and who's going to pay the piper then, eh?"

You hate fireworks? It's salutary to be reminded that they aren't a universal pleasure.
Hastings sounds very different from where I live.
Please post some photos. Love photos.

For me it wasn't shouty girls but moronic groups of young 'blokes'. They universally talk utterly sexist, homophobic or just stupid crap, which you catch snatches of as they pass. There seemed to be hundreds of teenagers everywhere too with trouble written across all their faces. As I looked around I was reminded of that lovely programme about Hogarth and his depiction of the British character.

My walk home up the hill was against a tide of teenage boys with huge boxes of beer and very overdressed girls in 'date-rape' shoes clutching Lambrini bottles who were already quite pissed.

Hastings, it seems - is just like anywhere else - an appropriate end for a night based on medieval sensibilities. I wish they could bring the Press Gang back.
