I couldn't hold back the tears when I actually saw it the other day.
D'you think the people of Hastings can raise a phoenix from the ashes?
Or when the dust has settled will they just give a collective shrug and say 'whatever....'?
I've belatedly joined the Trust. If everyone in Hastings did that then surely the groundswell of local public opinion could sway the grant-giving Heritage/Lottery powers that be.
I'm one of those odd people that sees opportunities in situations like this - that's why I keep buying wrecked houses. I think it actually looks really interesting now ( lets face it - it was ugly before ) and it seems much bigger than I remember - if they clear it all off and open it up and make it a flat space - it will be amazing - them we can decide what to do.
The difference between Hastings and Brighton is that we have a fishing fleet and are closer to the shipping lanes - so leaving it to fall into the sea is hardly an option.
I was sad for about five minutes, I also think the pier is more interesting now. I wonder where all these people have come from who are shedding a tear, where have they been for the past three years !!!!! Hastings should never have sold the pier, they should have kept it for the town and looked after it .
