Sunday already

I have not really looked at the papers year, a quick skim and I lost interest - maybe later.

Hastings Old Town Carnival yesterday - much better than last year, starting off with rain, wind and tick sea mist it really cleared up. Town was packed, there seemed to be 800 floats and it was strange and wonderful at the same time. There were legion carnival queens - I can't imagine where they all came from - ever 3rd float was a gaggle of comely pre-teens, mostly with wire netting around them to stop people throwing stuff at them. The general them was a quaint garden tableux - but one ( Swanage? ) seemed to be based on a pole dancing club. All black and silver with Grecian urns and animal prints.

It was very busy, and pretty successful - and the weather was good. The fireworks were pretty good too. Grindrod was down from London for the day and suitably impressed - I suggested a Forest Hill carnival but it fell on deaf ears.

Went to Courthouse market and bought 4 perfect old-style school chairs, get rid of the crap ones in my dining room - and the signage from some sort of take away restaurant - so all my houseguests now now I'm fully licensed and have an extensive take away menu. I got it into my head that between me and Grindrod we could carry all this home. Started off OK but half way up the hill I thought he was going to hit me with the chair. Not too sure what to do if a diabetic goes into an angry coma due to over exertion - perhaps best not to find out. Also picked up one of those chrome things that goes over the bath - soap rack and stuff - older style - perfect for my cast iron bath - £3, which is stupid money - they are about 40 in the shops.

I've got work to do today, but I might mot - the best ever episode of Columbo is on this afternoon, there is a double bill of classic Hitchcock films on 2 - and if you can stay up late enough - at 12.35am BBC 2 is shown 'The Sweet Smell Of Success' - brilliant satire based set in advertising industry on Madison Avenue in the 1950's.

When my back went half way up that hill the thought did cross my mind that those chairs could well be the death of one of us.

I know - hence I started lagging slightly behind - out of harms way.

I insist on taxis for this kind of hoo-ha in future.
