Figuratively. In addition to feeling less ill today and not having a burning face ( I'm actually quite tanned ) I had some good news overnight. At the end of last week - if things were not bad enough I heard a rumour that someone I work with had been made redundant. It had been spread buy a student and had already hit a couple of members of the PT staff - as it was the weekend and everyone was on holiday anyway, it was impossible to check. I thought it was fishy because we are normally consulted and informed formally of decisions like this and it made no rational sense. On the other hand, things are really bad everywhere - most colleges are shedding staff at all levels. Frankly I was in a bit of a state over it - things like that kick off all sorts of irrational fears and I've offloaded so many clients to concentrate on this job that if anything happened I'd be fucked. A couple of days with it at the back of my mind, combined with the stupid council tax farce and getting too much sun, and I was in a right state. Fortunatly last night I found out that it was complete and total bollocks.
I was up at 5 and have really noticed the change now - much less daylight - quite nippy really, I've just put my dressing gown in the wash in anticipation of autumn.
Yesterday I had to deal with a totally unexpected outbreak of dog fleas - neither dog has ever had them before - and they get regular Frontline treatments, so I was pretty pissed off. Came on all of a sudden and they were both scratching for England so I went down into town and bought some more chemicals - seems to have done the rick. Got rid of nearly all the bedding and boil washed the rest - hoovered like a demon and felt itchy all day.
edit: I'd forgotten how many people read this blog, can I just emphasise there was absolutly no truth in that rumour at all - it was complete bollocks, that's why I got onto it as soon as I could. A couple of weeks ago someone local put a very distorted article online about the closure of the old college being a disaster and staff leaving because of it, I emailed her as soon as I saw it to point out that this was very untrue and the move was a really good thing, and they published my private email online with a title that distorted everything further - I was pretty angry about it - they were told off by someone else and have amended the title to be more accurate - but it just demonstrates how stupid rumours can be based on poor and irresponsible communication. 100's of people saw that article and it gave the impression the college was in turmoil which was total bollocks - and they way they presented my response made it seem that I was struggling to patch things up - this is why stupid rumours can start. I suspect that this one started because the article claimed that tutors were leaving because of the move - absolute shite, two senior members have retired and are coming back as part timers - and have been replaced already by excellent people who already teach at the college - they would hardly have wanted the job if things were as bad as claimed.

Freakishly, Small Dog also had an outbreak of fleas over the weekend. She has never had them before and is also regularly Frontlined.
We called into Coopers on the way to our blustery BBQ and for advice and a flea spray, where we were informed that this year is the worst in living memory for flea infestations.
Perhaps there is a new breed of superflea....?
great, now I'll have nightmares about giant fleas. I came home the other day and there was a bloody patch in the middle of my duvet, one of them must have had a wound and liked it clean etc - unless it was a rat sized flea feasting on my hounds then hiding under the floorboards.
